MEGA and one of Russia’s largest marketplaces, Megamarket, have agreed to lease premises, previously occupied by IKEA stores in 14 MEGA shopping malls in 11 regions of Russia — a total area of 400,743 sq. m. In September 2023, Gazprombank Group acquired MEGA shopping malls with an area of 2.3 million square meters, having bought them from Ingka Centers.
Megamarket will expand the geography of its operation, as well as its offer to customers by inviting even more regional sellers, including representatives of small and medium-sized businesses, to cooperate.
Having a tenant running an online retail business is a new trend in the retail real estate market. For MEGA tenants, it is a new opportunity to scale up their sales through the options, provided by Megamarket.
“MEGA has acquired a reliable, dynamically developing business partner, which is part of one of the largest omnichannel systems in Russia. The cooperation between MEGA and Megamarket enables the parties to develop an innovative digital business model and attract new visitors to MEGA meeting spaces who now prefer online shopping,” said Tigran Khachaturov, Deputy Board Chairman of Gazprombank.
“Megamarket is growing rapidly, and the partnership with MEGA is another significant step for us. The new infrastructure allows our fulfillment platform’s partners to strengthen their presence in megacities and increase sales by offering more products to users of our marketplace in various regions of Russia. The delivery time will be reduced due to convenient territorial location of the facilities and their high transport accessibility. As a result, thousands of customers will be receiving their orders the very next day after registration,” said Sergey Malyshev, CEO of Megamarket.
