One tenth of large and medium-sized dairy producers explore projects to switch to the use of recycled plastic in food packaging, according to a survey by Agro and Food Communications.
“Almost 10% of agricultural companies, primarily in the dairy industry, find such projects promising,” said Ilya Bereznyuk, managing partner of the agency. In his opinion, such a transition will bring the Russian market closer to achieving the goals of the federal project on closed-loop economy and the potential use of up to 50% of recyclables in agriculture by 2030. For example, 68% of waste is recycled in Germany, and 49% in Sweden.
The survey was preceded by a pilot project of Econiva, a phased transition to the production of drinking milk in a new bottle with a recycled plastic content of up to 25%. In addition, a study by the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) was published, which showed that the vast majority of Russians, 90.2%, had a positive attitude towards the production of packaging from recycled waste.
From January 1, 2025, companies that use recyclables for the production of goods or packaging began to receive a discount when paying an environmental fee. Under the government decree, the greater the share of recyclables in a product or package, the lower the size of the environmental fee. In 2025, companies that use at least 55% of recyclables in the total weight of their packaging will be able to apply for a discount, and in 2026 — at least 75%.
